Course description

Are you interested in the living world? Biology is the study of living things in the environment, the interactions between individuals and the chemistry involved in body functions.The aims of the OCR course we deliver at Hastingsbury are to encourage students to:

  • develop their interest in and enthusiasm for biology, including developing an interest in further study and careers in biology
  • appreciate how society makes decisions about scientific issues and how the sciences contribute to the success of the economy and society
  • develop and demonstrate a deeper appreciation of the skills, knowledge and understanding of 'How Science Works'
  • develop essential knowledge and understanding of different areas of biology and how they relate to each other.

  • Entry requirements

    Minimum of 5 GCSE passes atA*-B from at least 4 different subjects. Including grade B or above in English and Maths. The entry criteria for AS Level Biology at Hastingsbury is grade B in at least two Science GCSE’s from Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Core Science and Additional Science. If Triple Science has been taken a grade B in Biology is required. Literacy and numeracy are also important. A grade C in both Maths and English Language GCSEs is essential.
