Chemistry A level **FEES PAYABLE** at Acorn Independent College
Chemistry is an exciting branch of science which allows students to apply and explore theoretical understanding with practical application in the laboratory. The principles of the understanding of science are underpinned by an understanding of chemistry. Students of Biology and Physics will find that their knowledge of these subjects enhanced by a greater understanding of the fundamentals of Chemistry. Chemistry is also a fascinating subject in its own right and students will develop logic, analytical skills, and applied numerical skills through the study of this subject at A level.
Although details of previous school reports and examination results may be considered, previous academic achievements are not our only criteria. At Acorn House, we value eagerness to learn and willingness to work hard. After discussing possible courses, an offer of a place is made if the student’s aims appear to be compatible with those of the College.
Chemistry is a facilitating subject recognised by Russell Group Universities and is an essential choice for students who wish to progress to degrees in medicine and other medical sciences.
The Two-year programme is designed for students who have completed their GCSE courses. Most students will study four AS subjects in their first year, and three of these subjects at A2 in the second year.
The One-Year Fast-Track A Level programme runs from September to June and offers an intensive approach to the student’s chosen subject. This one-year focused approach can be useful for those who have studied AS Levels or A Levels elsewhere but may not have achieved their desired grade and wish to retake their exams.
Our 18 Month A Level course option begins in January. It is particularly suited to students who are wishing to retake the full 2-year A Level course, but who were unable to begin in September, or who wish to move schools following a term in Lower Sixth elsewhere. The first year’s worth of modules for the A Level course will be condensed into the Spring and Summer terms in Lower Sixth, ending in June. Students will then be able to complete their final year of A Level study in the ordinary calendar structure, from September to June.
