Science A GCSE Level 2 at Nottingham Academy

Course description

– Students who wish to improve their science GCSE grade,

– BTEC students who require a science GCSE for a particular

course or job.

Course content

– RESIT Science A: 4 units: Biology 1, Chemistry 1 and Physics 1

with an Investigative Skills Assessment.

 

Resit students will only study for the resit they require which

could comprise of any of the above two combinations for

example if resitting Science A they may do the Investigative

Skills Assessment and Biology 1. For Additional science they

may need to do Chemistry and Physics 2.

 

BTEC students: all units of Science A.

 

The course depends on the students who apply and is tailored

to them. The onus of this course is upon the student’s ability to

be independent learners as the course will be taught 3 lessons

a week and will require students to do a lot of independent

study in their own time. The course is designed to improve the

current GCSE grades of those students who did not achieve as

well as they had hoped.

There is the possibility of students who took BTEC science to take the Science A course if they

require the GCSE for a specific higher education course or career but places are limited.

 

Entry requirements

Usually 5 GCSEs at grade D/E or above,however, applications will be

taken into consideration depending on previous educational background.

Assessment

Examinations in May/June and the Investigative Skills

Assessment to be completed by Easter.

Future opportunities

– Resit Core and Additional Science students: A-level sciences

(Grades B and above in both Core and Additional).

– BTEC students: BTEC level 3 Science (Minimum Grade C).
