Multimedia, VFX & Animation Level 3 at Gateshead College

Course description

Explore the world of interactive and digital design, motion graphics, visual effects, animation and previsualisation.

Our experienced and supportive staff will support and guide you throughout the programme. We ensure that you are taught the relevant skills that you will need to progress to higher education or employment.

Students gain a huge amount of support from the teaching staff in putting together a portfolio and perfecting university interview techniques. We offer placement opportunities to work in design studios and media production companies.You will also work through a number of vocationally directed projects that will realistically prepare you for a future in the industry.

Course content

  • 2 and 3D Animation.
  • Visual effects (VFX) and motion graphics for broadcast and film using Premier and AfterEffects.
  • 3D modelling and design in Cinema 4D and ZBrush.
  • Digital Design.
  • Concept art and previsualisation for film, animation and games.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grade C or above or equivalent, ideally including maths and English.

Assessment

Continuous assessment using class based assignments and portfolio of evidence

Future opportunities

The career possibilities in the sector are huge and diverse including, apps design, visual effects, motion graphics, animation, 3D modelling, web design, games design, photography, creative previsualisation, design for advertising, and design for mobile technology.

Students go on to study diverse range of courses at degree level. These include visual effects and motion graphics, game design, web design, multimedia, animation, photography and media.

 

Fast-track to an apprenticeship

If you can’t find the right apprenticeship vacancy or you want to do some studying first - no problem. You can start on a vocational study programme then once you’re ready and a vacancy becomes available, we’ll help you transfer on to an apprenticeship.

    • Gateshead College's Baltic Campus is located on the Gateshead quayside, just minutes from Newcastle City Centre and its attractions.

      The College is situated behind the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and The Sage Gateshead.

      The College has its own car park, but at busy times alternative parking is available nearby.

      There is a charge for parking. Students can apply for a permit to allow free parking during study time.
