Hair and Media Make-Up VTCT Level 2 Diploma at Bath College

Course description

This course specialises in developing skills necessary to work in beauty salons and the world of film and theatre. The qualification covers basic hairdressing techniques and specific media make-up skills.

Course content

Mandatory units:

  • • The art of dressing hair
  • • The art of photographic make up
  • • Apply make up
  •  Client care and communication in beauty related industries
  • • Follow health and safety practice in the salon
  • • Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector

Optional units:

  • • Client consultation for hair services
  • • Self tanning techniques
  • • Cut women’s hair
  • • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
  • • The art of colour hair
  • • Provide eye brow and lash techniques
  • • Themed face painting

Entry requirements

  • Four full GCSEs including English language and Maths at grade D or above OR a Level 1 Diploma in Beauty or Hairdressing
  • Excellent communication skills, a high standard of personal presentation, a mature caring attitude and a professional customer focused approach that will be assessed at interview
  • You will need to bring to interview evidence of your interest in the world of hair, make up and media, e.g. an art portfolio, photographic project, an interest in shows, events, exhibitions (theatre, concerts etc)

Assessment

Units are internally and externally assessed. Continuous practical assessment is used to teach and develop vocational competence. On completion of each unit you will be required to undertake an externally set theory paper.
