Life Skills - Foundation Learning Employability and Life Skills - Entry Level 2 at Calderdale College

Course description

The Course provides the opportunity for learners to study,the Certificate of Personal Progrssion which has the development of literacy and numeracy skills embedded within the vocational units. In addition some learners may be able to study literacy and/or numeracy as stand alone qualifications. Examples of units are Developing Learning Skills, Developing Skills for the Workplace and Developing Independent Living Skills

Course content

The Foundation Learning Programme provides the opportunity for learners to study, Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT while developing skills in personal and social responsibility and Employability. The learners will work within a real Cafe environment and also participate in numerous enterprise activities as part of their studies. The learner is required to work towards all three components of the Foundation Learning qualification and this may result in the achievement of up to five qualifications.

Teaching is delivered using accelerated learning principles and the learning environment supports both individual and group work in a classroom environment. There are lots of practical activities, including working in the Cafe and taking part in various enterprise activities around college and within the local community.
 

Entry requirements

You will be required to provide evidence of previous learning and a copy of a Statement of Needs or Local Authority equivalent.

You will be required to attend an interview with a specialist tutor. You will be required to provide evidence of previous learning and a copy of a Statement of Needs or Local Authority equivalent. You will complete an initial assessment which will determine entry onto the right level course. Additional Assessment for Learning will take place during the two week Course induction to ensure that learners are on the correct level to suit their skills, ability and previous learning.  In addition you will be required to participate in an interview with the Study Support Co-ordinator to assess any support needs you may have

Assessment

Progress is monitored closely and assessed regularly through coursework and review of the Individual Learning Plan. Learners will complete practical activities which will generate evidence for a portfolio which will be submitted to the Awarding Body for external moderation for two components.  Functional Skills is assessed by completing assessment in a time constrained classroom environment

Financial information

In most cases students aged 18 and under who wish to enrol on a full time further education course will have their fees waived. Students who are aged 19 and over and who wish to enrol on a full time course should contact our Student Services Team on 01422-399367 for more information.
