Health and Social Care (Adults) City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship at JR Training Hampshire Limited

Course description

This qualification is designed for people will be working without direct supervision or on their own, perhaps in a user’s own home. They may be working towards a role that involves some supervisory responsibility or might be involved in specialist tasks with some degree of responsibility or independence. These awards are particularly relevant to senior care workers, health care workers, home care organisers and community support workers and include units for drugs and mental health workers. The apprenticeship differs from the standard Level 3 Diploma by adding additional units that further improve the learner’s skills in the sector and generally within a workplace. The Apprenticeship contains:

–       Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care.

–        Level 2 Award in Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Health.

–       Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to Work in Adult Social Care.

–       Functional skills mathematics and English level 2.

–       Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.


There is an opportunity to undertake a choice of three pathways in the diploma:

–       Generic Health and Social Care

–       Dementia

–       Learning Disability


The qualification is made up of a core of mandatory units that meet the regulatory requirements of the course and optional units that tailor to the learners work field within the health and social care. Each unit has a credit value that contributes to the minimum 58 credit requirement of the qualification. The course criteria are assessed by portfolio of evidence produced by the learner and through assignments. Skills are assessed in the workplace via observation of performance. Knowledge can be assessed both in and out of the workplace. All assessment is tailored to meet the learning needs and preference of the individual learner.

Entry requirements

To be eligible for enrolment on this course there are no academic requirements but the learner needs to be working in a job role equivalent to the course they wish to take i.e. senior support workers, team leaders, support worker or care assistant.

The cost of this course will vary depending on Recognition of Prior Learning and funding available (under 24 year old’s).
