Dance A level at Hayesfield Girls' School and Mixed Sixth Form

Course description

Why study this subject at Hayesfield?

The study of Dance enables students to develop socially whilst promoting creativity, fitness and well-being. Through becoming a performer and choreographer at A Level, students develop their confidence, self-esteem and team working skills.

Course content

Solo performance linked to a specified practitioner within an area of study.

Performance in a quartet.

Group choreography.

Knowledge, understanding and critical appreciation of two set works.

One compulsory set work within the compulsory area of study.

One optional set work within the corresponding area of study, from a choice of four.

Entry requirements

Grade 5 in GCSE Dance. 


Practical exam - 50% of A Level. Written exam - 50% of A Level (2 hours 30 minutes).

Future opportunities

Students can go on to study Dance within a higher education institution, professional dance training, dance teaching, arts administration.

Further information

This subject works well with

English Literature, Psychology, History, Politics and any of the Arts subjects.

Extra/Super curricular activities

Students will be expected to participate in additional dance classes to maintain and improve their own dance practice, and participate in dance performances within school.

Students in Year 12 and 13 run a Dance Club for younger students
