Music A level at Nower Hill High School
Who is the course for?
Students who want a wide practical and academic understanding of music and enjoy learning about a variety of styles and music genres.
How will I be taught?
Individual and small group work, class work, practical sessions. As part of continued learning between lessons students will have to practice their instruments on a regular basis. We encourage students to listen to a wide range of musical compositions and styles in their own time. They will be required to complete essays, research and composition for homework.
You will develop skills in performing, composing, listening and analysis. You will improve your performance and composition in a variety of styles. You will listen to a wide range of music and develop a deeper understanding of how and why it was written.
Students must achieve Grade B or above in GCSE Music in addition to Grade 5 on an instrument.
By listening examination, externally assessed performance coursework and externally assessed composition coursework.
Progression to degrees at university or music college and employment in the music industry or in teaching.
What equipment or materials will I need?
Paper, manuscript paper, musical instrument (including voice), writing equipment.
