English Literature Level 3 GCE AS/A2 at Oak Academy

Course description

The A-Level English Literature course builds on the skills learnt during KS4.
It develops the skills of personal interpretation and critical analysis as well as improving students’ ability to write concisely and fluently.
The course encourages independent thinking and involves reading a range of literary texts, to develop understanding of the breadth and diversity of the literary canon.
A wide range of authors are studied including Shakespeare and Marlowe as well as more contemporary writes such as Margaret Atwood, Angela Carter and F Scott Fitzgerald. Students will be introduced to many of the most well-known and intriguing texts and characters in literary fiction.
As well as studying a range of texts, students will also be introduced to the study of linguistics and creative writing in a wide variety of forms.
Entry Requirements:
5 A*-C GCSE including English GCSE Grade B.
English literature sets a good foundation for employment and for Higher Education courses such as Literature, Language and Linguistics degrees, Creative Writing degrees and Journalism.
Careers which the study of English Literature and Language would complement include journalism, teaching, advertising and marketing.
The skills gained whilst studying include: independent study, text production, analysis of speech and a high level of literacy.
