Performing Arts (Dance) BTEC at Shoreham Academy

Course description

This course allows you to build transferable skills such as organising public events, delivering presentations, leading productions, essay writing, analysing and working as part of a team. Students will be expected to attend trips and participate in workshops/ performances.

Course content

A number of units including:

  • Developing Contemporary dance Technique
  • Dance performance
  • Choreographing Dance
  • Dance Improvisation

This course is best studied alongside the Arts Award Gold course offered at Shoreham Academy as an additional course to the expected number.

Entry requirements

GCSE at Grade B in Dance.


All work is assessed by staff and externally moderated by a BTEC Examiner. Grades can awarded from Pass to Distinction and are based on both your practical and written coursework.

Future opportunities

Students who wish to pursue a career in dance can go on to; study a BA Hons degree at University, attend a dance school, apply for company internships, perform, choreograph, embark on dance journalism, teach, work freelance and set up independent dance schools.
