Course description

What’s it all about?

Designing and making useable objects, from one-offs to possible mass production.

What topics are covered for AS?

1. Experimental work based on the theme of contrasts using a wide variety of inspirations and sources.

2. The exam piece set by the board.

What topics are covered for A2?

1. Critical study of a designer, architect, potter or other creative person.

2. A project based on an individually agreed theme using a variety of materials and processes.

3. The exam!

How is the subject taught?

A mixture of practical and theory lessons.

What do I need to be “good” at this subject?

The ability to do personal research, to think creatively and to experiment. You need to be prepared with ideas and materials

Entry requirements

More than anything you need the desire to work and the desire to produce something new. At least grade C at GCSE English Language would be an asset. You do not need to have done GCSE Art.
