Physical Education A Level at Roding Valley High School

Course description

Students have the opportunity to experience and develop an interest in a variety of roles in sport such as a performer, official and coach. The course will also address current contemporary topics such as the impact of ergogenic aids, technology, and increasing commercialisation of sport.

Course content

A level PE comprises two sections: theoretical and practical elements. The theoretical section includes topics such as, anatomy and physiology, skill acquisition, socio-cultural studies, history of sport, sport psychology, and exercise physiology. The practical section focuses on the individual’s performance over two sports, and their ability to critically analyse performance in relation to different theoretical aspects.

Future opportunities

University degrees that require or often prefer Physical Education include:

Sports Science, Sport and Exercise and Health Science, Sport and Leisure Management and Education.

Possible career paths:

Sports coaching, sports therapy, fitness centre management, sports development and personal training. Sports nutrition, sports journalism, sport governance, PE teaching, sport psychology, physiotherapy, outdoor pursuits, event organisation, health promotion , NHS, tourism, hospitality and management.
