Course description

AS: Exam – 2 hours
3.1: Data Information and Processing
3.2: Software and Hardware components of an information system
3.3: Characteristics of Standard Applications
3.4: Spread sheet Concepts
3.5: Relational databases
3.6: Applications software used for presentations
3.7: The role and Impact of ICT
Coursework: Board set each year 4 separate tasks, usually Word Processing, Website, Spreadsheet and Database

A2: Exam – 2 hours
3.3.1: Systems Cycle
3.3.2: Designing Computer Based Information Systems
3.3.3: Networks and Communications
3.3.4: Applications of IT
3.3.5: Implementing Computer Based Information Systems
3.3.6: Implications of IT
Coursework: Project based on real end user and solving a problem with ICT based solution

Entry requirements

Entry into our 6th Form is based upon gaining a minimum of 5 A* - C at GCSE including at least a grade C in English and/or maths. BTEC courses will be taken into account in support of the 5 A*-C at GCSE. The minimum average points score for all subjects for entry into the 6th Form is 39.
