Music Subsidiary Diploma at Prospect School

Course description

The BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma covers the key knowledge and practical skills required in the appropriate vocational sector. The Diploma also offers greater flexibility and a choice of emphasis through the optional units. It is broadly equivalent to one GCE A Level.

Course content

The Level 3 Subsidiary/Diploma Music extend the GCSE skills of performing, composing and listening. There are no limits on instruments, voice or types of repertoire which may be presented in performance. There are opportunities at both levels to develop skills in the handling of Music Technology both as a tool, and as a performing and composing/arranging medium in its own right.

Entry requirements

  • At least 5 GCSE’s A*-C including music
  • Practical musical skills on an instrument


A mixture of both externally and internaly assessed units.

Future opportunities

Music is an entry requirement for most music degrees and a good complementary/contrasting subject to other A-Levels even if you're not considering music at university. After a music degree....who knows?! You could end up as a teacher, performer, composer, conductor, arranger, stage manager, sound technician the possibilities are endless!
