ESOL Skills for Life Entry Level 2 Certificate at Havering College of Further and Higher Education
If you're looking to improve your English and your maths, this course will help you to achieve your aims on a full-time basis. You will study on a programme for 15 hours per week for 34 weeks. We will invite you in for an interview and an assessment of your needs, set goals with you and get you started on your journey to learn to improve your language skills.
The course is made up of different units including reading, writing and speaking and listening. You will learn about the subjects including application of these four skills in real-life situations and Functional Skills maths. The tutor will help you to follow an individual learning plan that will help you to break down any barriers that you may have had in the past, set goals that are right for you and work on increasing your confidence.
There are no formal entry requirements. Candidates will have an initial assessment, which will indicate any support that may be required and determine the appropriate level of the course as it is offered at levels ranging from Entry 1- Entry 3 and Level 1 and Level 2.
Intitial Assessement and Diagnostic assessment will determine the appropriate level of learning. Formative assessment throughout the course will help check progress. An internally assessed exam will determine the accredited qualification with the awarding body.
The compulsory subjects are: ESOL, Functional Skills Maths and Enterprise.
Depending on which course level you've completed, you will be able to progress to the next level. Once you achieve at Level 2, you will have met entry criteria for vocational or academic courses in both further and higher education.
After completing this course you will have developed your English skills in order to prepare you for a more confident approach to your job search or further studies. Many employers ask for evidence of basic English and Maths. This qualification will provide an excellent opportunity for you to recognise the importance of basic communication skills across a wide range of jobs and increase your chances in a competitve environment.
