Drama and Theatre Studies A Level at Teignmouth Community School

Course description

You will need to hold a BTEC Level 2 in Performing Arts with a merit or above OR a GCSE in Drama with a grade B or above. As the course links significantly with English with a high percentage of grade allocation being evidenced through written work, you will also need to have a GCSE in English at a B or above. The course is designed to be a combination of practical and academic assessments with two public performances. This course is both internally and externally assessed with a significant percentage based on your practical work. This course focuses purely on your understanding of theatre and performance.

Course content

You need to complete 4 units over the 2 years. Each unit is based on gaining a theoretical understanding of theatre and then applying it in performance. Units include:

Year 1 (AS)
- Exploration of Drama and Theatre
- Theatre Text in Performance

Year 2 (A2)
- Exploration of Dramatic Performance
- Theatre Text in Context

Future opportunities

With the balance of practical and academic assessments this course covers, you could consider a wide variety of prospective careers and university applications, for example: actor/actress, teacher, events management or any career with contact with the public. The A Level provides strong links with English Literature and Sociology.
