Light Vehicle Repair and Refinishing Apprenticeship Level 2 at City College Coventry

Course description

This qualification combines essential underpinning knowledge with practical learning. Assessment combines practical tasks, oral/written questioning and online tests.

You will develop skills such as how to:

  • Carry Out Minor Repairs to Motor Vehicle Exterior Body Panels
  • Remove and Replace Exterior Motor Vehicle Body Panels Including Permanently Fixed Components
  • Establish Paint Defects

On completion of these qualifications you would be able to progress in employment onto the following job roles:

Panel, Paint or Mechanical and Electrical Trim Technician (level 2)

Senior Panel, Paint or Mechanical and Electrical Trim Technician (level 3)


During your studies you will be gaining workshop experience fabricating panels from sheet steel, carrying out minor repairs to panel, carrying out remove and refit processes, carry out the preparation of panels for the application of foundation materials.
You will also gain experience of MIG Welding, Gas Welding and Spot welding. During workshop sessions you will be gaining real life work experience and dealing with customers, you will be working with others as part of a team and carrying out vehicle damage checks.
You will be given projects to undertake both in the classroom and workshop,  you will be able to create examples of work to showcase your skills to employers.

Qualifications upon completion include:

City & Guilds Level 1 Light vehicle Body Repair
City & Guilds Level 2 Light vehicle Body Repair & Paint

Entry requirements

You need to be employed in a relevant role to join an Apprenticeship programme plus:

4 GCSEs Grade D or above, including English & Maths

Or a relevant Level 1 qualification combined with GCSE/Level 1 English & Maths
