Applied ICT AS/A2 at Christ's College Guildford

Course description

Applied ICT is a modern, user focused course which aims to provide students with a broad experience of different aspects of the information age in which we live. The majority of the course is assessed through the use of e-portfolios which students prepare by investigating a particular aspect of the use of information technology. At AS level the emphasis is on an understanding of the world in which we live, while at A2, students will start to learn project management skills to deliver useful applications based around multimedia and database technology.

Students will use a range of software applications including the Adobe suite of software such as Flash, Fireworks, Soundbooth and Dreamweaver as well as learning to use advanced skills in Microsoft packages such as Excel and Access.

  • More information
    • Now in its third year, the Sixth Form Centre has been created to ensure that all students can benefit from its facilities to help maximise their potential. With five teaching spaces, a Study Room, Common Room and a Gym, the Sixth Form Centre is a bright and modern place to study. The Sixth Form Centre is separated from the main College buildings, creating a distinct community feel that is a real step up from Key Stage 4. In fact, many of our Year 13 students have commented on this saying it has the feel of a ‘supportive family’. This family feel is enhanced by the presence of the Sixth Form Team who are based in the Centre and are there to help students as they progress through their courses. The classrooms have all got an Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) system with stereo sound. There are also ‘high spec’ desktop computers in the Study Room. We have installed the latest AC compatible wireless access points allowing you to work on your own Laptops, Netbooks or iPads or to be able to borrow one of the College iPads© (which you can use in whatever room you choose). This solution allows you to work on most of the College licenced software programs on your own device(s), which therefore ensures that you can get on with your work at all times. The Study Room has individual study carrels, group work desks and even a small reference library. We endeavour to ensure it is a quiet place of study at all times. In addition to this, we have installed a fully functional fitness Gym with free weights, exercise bikes, rowing machines and an iPod dock to play music while you exercise. With a different ethos, greater emphasis on personal and private study and the facilities to match, Sixth Formers are very well prepared for university life.
