Sport BTEC Level 2 First Diploma at Harrogate College

Course description

The course is set over one year with the emphasis on all aspects of sport.  Students will complete one year of study, and if successful in achieving the Level 2 may have the opportunity of progressing onto the Level 3 two year course.

Course content

Students’ main programme of study prepares them for progression onto the Level 3 course, and also introduces them to the world of sport in terms of a future career.  The course looks at all aspects of sport from fitness testing, designing training programmes, evaluating sports injuries, taking part in practical sport, and looking at nutritional requirements for sport and exercise.

Main programme studies are continually assessed, with units including the following:

 Anatomy & Physiology
 Fitness Testing, Training & Development
 Practical Sports
 Sports Injuries
 Sports Nutrition

As well as your main programme studies in Sport, you will develop your Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT.

Entry requirements

You will need GCSEs in four subjects including Maths and English (grades A-D) or a Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Sport & Active Leisure with Functional Skills English, Maths & ICT at Entry level 3.Students must also have a keen interest in sport. A satisfactory reference may also be required.

Future opportunities

If you are successful on the course, it can lead to entry onto the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Development, Coaching & Fitness), which is an A Level equivalent course.

It may also lead to employment in the Sport, Fitness and Leisure Industry, providing a foundation in health & fitness, and sport related knowledge and experience.
