A Level Modern Foreign Languages - German and Spanish at Theale Green School

Course description

AS and A2 levels in modern foreign languages are an exciting and challenging way to extend the practice and understanding of languages after GCSE. The skills developed during the course are relevant to studies in a variety of other subject areas such as history, English, sociology and business studies. A modern foreign language is essential for many careers and highly desirable in many others – in short, a qualification in a language makes you more employable.

We follow the AQA AS specifications in French, German and Spanish.
Topic areas studied are: Media; Popular culture; Healthy Living/Lifestyle; Family/Relationships.

The course is divided into two units and 2 examinations which assess the four skills of: Listening, Reading ,Writing, Speaking.

To develop and extend the skills developed during the GCSE course. To acquire deeper knowledge about both the contemporary society and the cultural background and heritage of the target language country. To be able to communicate confidently, clearly and effectively in both the written and spoken language.

Entry requirements

German, and Spanish are offered to students currently studying these languages at GCSE. Students will need to have achieved at least a B grade on the Higher tier papers at GCSE in order to cope with the demands of the AS course.
