Plastering Diploma Level 2 at New College Nottingham

Course description

If you enjoy working in a practical way, have a good attention to detail, and don’t mind getting your hands dirty, this course is for you.

 

It can be hugely satisfying to stand back and see a freshly plastered wall and know that you did it with the skills you have acquired. This course will give you all the techniques and experience to achieve this.

 

Plastering is an excellent trade to become skilled. With thousands of new jobs created in the construction sector each year, this qualification is sure to open up a number of opportunities for you in the industry.  

 

Studying the Plastering CAA Diploma you will learn about health and safety, how to prepare a background/wall, preparation and mixing of plaster materials, the precision needed when cutting plasterboards and the fine art of the plastering application.

Course content

You will study a combination of practical and theoretical modules to ensure you complete the course with a good balance of workable skills, alongside the knowledge and understanding of the trade.

The course consists of a variety of units, from the storage and handling of materials; mechanically fixing plaster boarding and selecting materials, components and equipment; to health and safety; scaffolding; laying floor screeds; and fixing and finishing dry lining.

You will also cover the following topics:  

  • Interpreting information  
  • Internal solid plastering  
  • Different styles of one- and two-coat rendering systems  

As well as learning the theory behind the trade, you will also be involved in a number of practical projects to prepare you for the world of work.

With ncn’s excellent links with employers you will be given plenty of opportunities to work on real projects. 

Entry requirements

All students must have an assessment test as part of the interview and have ONE from the following:

  • 4 GCSEs (3 at grades A*-D and 1 at grade A*-E), including English and Maths
  • Level 1 Diploma in a construction discipline, plus GCSE English and Maths (1 at grade A*-D and 1 at grade A*-E) Equivalent qualifications - Functional Skills may be accepted in place of GCSE Maths and/or English

Adults 19+ who have industry experience but do not have the necessary qualifications are welcome to apply.

Assessment

It will include a multiple choice paper, a practical assessment and an external online test.
