NHC offers a range of courses designed to equip students with the skills needed to work within tourism and aviation. On our courses, you’ll be encouraged to choose a specific career pathway that suits you. Typical career pathways within this sector include:
Cabin crew: travel the world, meet new people and see exotic places in a fast-paced career as a flight attendant. In its simplest form, this role involves looking after the passengers’ needs during flights, from serving food, explaining emergency safety procedures or calming nerves. You’ll be the friendly, go-to face of the airline. Working hours can be anti-social and entail long periods far from home but the cultural benefits are out of this world.
Holiday representative: in this role, you’ll make sure that everything runs smoothly for groups of clients who are on package holidays at holiday resorts abroad. As the public face of the tour operator, you’ll be responsible for all customer service, from coordinating airport pick-ups, welcome talks, group excursions and activities, to handling complaints or helping to resolve emergencies like lost luggage or health problems.
Hospitality and front of house: NHC courses could lead to a variety of roles working at hotels, cruise ships, holiday resorts, arenas, zoos or museums. You’ll ensure that all customers, tourists or guests have a pleasant experience. This could mean working on receptions, box offices or cash desks, overseeing ticketing and reservations, serving food and drinks, monitoring security or promoting and managing events. This is a varied role that could lead to a number of management opportunities.
You will explore the key components of the industry introducing students to the wide variety of roles available in the working world such as resort rep, cabin crew and retail travel agent. This course is highly practical and supported by our Travel and Tourism team each of whom are industry experts.
During the course you will be able to choose a specific career pathway that suits you and gain an additional level 2 qualification relevant to your intended destination.Pathways:
Aviation Operations on the Ground
This pathway is specific to careers in airport check-in, airport baggage handling, passenger services, airside operations and landside operations.
Air Cabin Crew
This pathway will equip you with the specific skills required to begin a career in air cabin crew roles.
Cruise and Passenger Shipping
This pathway will equip you with the skills required to begin a career in a customer service role on board a cruise or passenger ship.
This pathway will equip you with skills required to work in a customer service role within a holiday resort, students who complete this qualification will be guaranteed an interview with Thomas Cook.
This pathway will equip you with the specific skills required to begin a career as a travel consultant for a tour operator.
To gain entry onto this course, students require a minimum of four GCSEs at grade C or above including English and Maths.
The programme is coursework based with some in house tests for some projects. The only exams you will sit will be maths and English for either GCSE retakes or Functional Skills.

This programme is eligible for Advanced Learner Loans.

Upon successful completion of the course you can progress onto study the HND Travel and Tourism Management programme or apply for an array of jobs in the travel industry.
