Next Steps (Entry Level 3) at Northampton College

Course description

This course is designed to develop and prepare you for further education or work. The course will help you demonstrate that you have the personal skills, qualities and attitudes needed by employers. By achieving this qualification, you will develop your skills and confidence, which may also help you progress to further learning.The main qualification is made up of a wide variety of units which fall into two broad catagories:Employability and Personal and Social Development (PSD) units which may include cultural diversity, supporting others and developing your personal development and employability skills.Vocational 'taster' units which may include cookery and performing arts enterprise.

Course content

If you are working towards Entry Level 3 or achieved ACE or Entry Level 2 Work Skills and Employability this course may be for you. It is designed for students who need a supportive environment in which to learn. This qualification is designed for students working towards Level 1 which is likely to encompass a scale of achievement from those students with milder learning difficulties and/or disabilities who are able to progress to Entry Level 3. Once you have completed this course, you will have the opportunity to progress either on to other college courses.

Entry requirements

You must have achieved Entry Level 2 or be working towards Entry Level 3 and possess a willingness to take part in new learning opportunities and show you are committed to furthering your education.


You will be taught in small groups and will be set targets to achieve. Both your targets and your progress will be monitored regulary in tutorial sessions. We will assess your individual needs at your initial interview, and if necessary, will arrange additional support to help you achieve your learning goals. A portfolio of work will be built throughout the course.

Further information

There may be additional costs for those who wish to undertake cookery as an option. This is normally around £25.00 per term. Some bursary funding may be available. There are usually at least two full day trips to various locations: Day trips £20.00 - £40.00
