BTEC Hospitality Level 2 Extended Certificate at Nottingham Academy

Course description

Whether you see yourself as the next Jamie Oliver or you

simply have an interest in learning more about the types of

jobs that are available in the catering and hospitality industry,

studying hospitality will give you an insight into this

exciting sector.

Course content

During the course you will study the hospitality industry and

investigate the employment opportunities that exist within

this sector. You will then go on to develop an understanding of

world food and learn how to prepare and cook a variety of

dishes. Finally, you will learn safety and health and safety.

 

Units covered

– Unit 1: Introducing the Hospitality industry.

– Unit 2: Working in the hospitality industry.

– Unit 3: Food safety and Health and safety in hospitality.

– Unit 6: Planning, preparing, cooking and finishing food.

Entry requirements

Usually 5 GCSEs at grade D/E or above,however, applications will be

taken into consideration depending on previous educational background

Assessment

Assessment is through producing a portfolio of coursework as

well as externally assessed modules which is exam based.

 

This could consist of written essays, reports, posters and

leaflets. You will also be assessed by carrying out group work,

presentations and practical activities e.g. designing and

cooking your own menu.

Future opportunities

A career in the hospitality industry – this BTEC qualification in

hospitality is widely recognised across the industry by hotels,

restaurants, bars and cafes. You could also go on to further

study at level 3.
