Level 1 Diploma in Beauty Therapy at Newcastle-under-Lyme College
The aim of the course is to provide a programme of training, leading to a nationally recognised professional qualification, for individuals working within the beauty industry. This qualification would enhance individuals who are looking to assist within the beauty industry.
The programme involves a study of technical units and related units at a specialist level covering areas which include; facials, manicures, pedicures, waxing and maintenance treatments.
You learn by carrying out assignments designed to enable you to show competence. Some of these are practical, some written and some are spoken responses to your tutor’s questions.
As part of your study programme alongside your chosen course you will complete a maths and/or English qualification if you have not already achieved a grade C or above. (This will be a GCSE for all students with a grade D).
The study programme will also incorporate a range of work related experience activities to ensure that you have the breadth of skills required to progress to further/higher education, employment or an apprenticeship.
There are no formal entry requirements for Level 1 Beauty Therapy, but applicants must demonstrate a keen interest and enjoy working as part of a team. This course is open to any individual wishing to enter into Beauty Therapy. You will attend English and maths classes as part of this programme
You are continually assessed throughout the course by building a portfolio of work. Practical assessments will be observed by your assessor on a selection of clients. External assessments will be completed with written papers.
Newcastle Maintenance Allowance (NMA): Anyone with a household income under £21,000 can receive £20 per week financial support to help pay for travel and meals and meet the costs of essential trips, books, stationery and equipment. The payments will be subject to full attendance on your course. A range of other financial support is available, depending on your personal circumstances.
You can progress onto a Level 2 course in Beauty Therapy or an Apprenticeship in Beauty Therapy.
You will need to purchase a uniform and kit before you can enrol on the course. The costs of these items will be discussed with you prior to enrolment. You may be able to claim financial support towards the costs of essential course materials – please see www.nulc.ac.uk/finance.
