Design and Technology Product Design Resistant Materials A level at Edgbarrow School
Because Resistant Materials and Graphic Products are options within the same course, they cannot be taken together. Both courses extend students’ experiences in designing and making quality products in a specialist range of materials.
Students will be expected to become much more independent and self motivated to succeed in Product Design. Coursework requires independent research and creative ability.
Unit 1 - A portfolio of creative skills, demonstrating product investigation, product design and product manufacture, 60% of AS (30% of A Level).
Unit 2 - A detailed study of design & technology in practice, 40% of AS (20% of A Level).
Unit 3 - A detailed study of design & technology for the future, 30% of A Level.
Students should have achieved a grade B or above in GCSE Graphics or Resistant Materials.
Resistant Materials would be suitable for students wishing to follow a career in areas such as furniture design, consumer product design, industrial design, sports product design and engineering.
