Bench Joinery Level 3 City and Guilds Diploma at Lowestoft College
The Level 3 is focused on Bench Joinery. It will help you to develop a range of more advanced skills, techniques and working practices.
Following your initial assessment an individual learning plan is created which will highlight your strengths and details any areas of need.
The course is broken down into units focusing on specific areas which are then assessed. This will allow us to check your progress before the next module begins. Don’t worry! Each unit is carefully programmed and delivered to ensure you receive training appropriate for you.
During the course you will receive practical and theory lessons. In practical lessons you will work through a series of tasks or projects to develop your hands on skills. All of the tasks that you produce are set by the awarding body to demonstrate and verify your practical skills. The theory sessions provide you with the underpinning knowledge of the construction industry needed to apply your skills on site.
Areas covered include:
- Safe working practices
- Building methods and construction technology
- Set up and use fixed machinery such as band saws, morticers, circular saws
- Manufacture complex shaped joinery products (doors, frames, linings, units and fitments, spandrel panelling, turning staircases, curved joinery details, balustrade and handrails)
- Mark out joinery items
Your entry level will be assessed based on any previous experience you may have, initial aptitude test results and from discussing your goals and aspirations.
No matter what level you start at each course prepares you for the next to allow you to progress and maximise your potential.
Practical work is assessed against awarding body criteria in the workplace. Theory is assessed via multiple choice exams both online and paper-based at the end of each unit.
After completing this course you may choose to continue with your training by joining another construction-related course or find work within the industry.
