Animal Care Level 2 Diploma at Writtle University College

Course description

This Level 2 course is ideal if you have little experience of working with animals. It combines theoretical subjects with practical activities and projects. You will develop practical animal handling skills and gain an understanding of the basic care of a wide range of animal species

Course content

Maintain animal accommodation, plan and monitor animal feeding, maintain animal health and welfare, introduction to animal behaviour and handling, understand the principles of animal biology, conservation and improvement of british habitats, undertake work experience in the land-based industries.

Entry requirements

Standard entry is four GCSEs at grade A-D to include a minimum of grade C in Science, Mathematics or English and a suitable reference. However alternative qualifications or experience will be considered on application.

Assessment

The course is assessed in a variety of ways including written assignments, tests, presentations as well as practical assessments involving the animals at the College Animal Unit.

Future opportunities

Progress to a higher level qualification such as the Level 3 Diploma Animal Management or undertake an Apprenticeship. Employment in zoos, pet shops or kennels is also possible.
