How will I be studying?
The course will introduce you to the types of assessment that would be met at university: academic essay, seminars, presentations, scientific reports, research and exams.
We expect you to have, as a minimum, GCSE Grade C or above in English and Maths (or equivalent qualifications).
If you do not already have these qualifications, you will be advised to do the Pre-Access Course.
You will also need to have a successful interview.
You will complete an assessment for each unit; this will be achieved through individual study/group work. These will be either graded or ungraded and full feedback will be given with each marked assignment.
The Access courses are designed to provide mature learners with the qualifications needed to progress onto study at university or to start a career in thier chosen area. Where students have chosen to not take up a university place or have deferred their place, they have typically improved their employment through promotion or change of career. The course is ideal for those who do not have the required qualifications to apply to university, or those who have been out of a learning environment for some time.
Former students have used the Access to Higher Education course as a stepping stone to university. They have successfully studied degrees in a variety of subjects including nursing, midwifery, teaching and social work.
