Art & Design BTEC Level 3 90 Credit Diploma and Extended Diploma at Brooklands College

Course description

These courses are ideal if you enjoy art and design and prefer a more practical route of study.

Course content

Year one consists of several projects that give you a taste of the different areas within Art & Design. These projects include: Graphic Design, Photoshop and Illustrator, Photography, Printmaking, Fashion, 3D and Sculpture, Drawing & Painting and Art History.   Year 1 covers 9 units.

Towards the end of year one and in year 2, students will be able to choose a more specialist pathway aimed at preparing them for entry into Higher Education or employment.  Specialist areas available are Fine Art & 3D, Fashion and Graphic Design & Photography.  Year 2 covers 9 units.

Entry requirements

You need 5 GCSE passes at grade C or above (preferably including a grade B in an art related subject plus a good portfolio of work) or BTEC Level 2 Diploma in a related subject - Merit grade.


All the units are internally assessed through project work.

Financial information

Students are requested to make a contribution of £90 towards the cost of studio materials. There are several visits to London galleries and local workshops made throughout the course to support the vocational context of the qualification.  Students are allocated a certain amount of free printing, after which a small fee will be incurred.

The skills you learn on these courses are recognised and highly valued by employers and universities. This qualification could lead you onto a degree course / career paths / in areas such as graphic design, advertising, architecture, interior design, jewellery design, photography, textile or fashion design, arts management, museum or gallery work and many more.
