Economics A at Heston Community School
Economics A is the right subject for you if you enjoy: debating economic issues such as: inequality, immigration and how we should pay for healthcare, using and interpreting data to analyse economic problems, discussing alternative courses of action and keeping up to date with national and international trends.
In Theme 1 and Theme 2 you will study the nature of economics, how markets work and why they fail. In Theme 3 and Theme 4 you will explore how businesses grow and compete, the labour market and how the government intervenes to make markets work better. You will also explore international trade, inequality within and between countries, emerging and developing economies, and the public finances. You will also have an opportunity to consider the role and impact of the financial sector.
You must have achieved a Grade 5 in English and Mathematics and an Attainment 8 GCSE score of 46 in the remaining subjects. In addition to this minimum entry requirement, it is preferable for students to have achieved at least GCSE Grade 6 in any subject that they intend to study at A level.
