Music A level at Park View Community School

Course description

This course is very wide ranging and demanding and a genuine interest in music between 1600 and the present day is essential. A willingness to analyse music, develop your music listening skills, compose creatively as well as perform in concerts and for recording is extremely important.

Entry requirements

Candidates should have at least a grade C in music GCSE and should be able to perform on at least one instrument, ideally at grade V or above. Pupils should take into consideration the need to be able to read music in order to complete the analysis and composition tasks.

Future opportunities

Music A level is essential for a music degree. Music A level is also very useful for those considering going into teaching at any level, but particularly in primary schools.

Further information

There are many opportunities within school for pupils taking music A level, including the orchestra, concert band, string group, chamber choir, musical productions and concerts throughout the year where pupils will have the opportunity to showcase their musical ability in solos and ensembles. It is also possible for pupils to take responsibility for small ensemble groups for rehearsals and concerts, for example a string quartet.
