Art and Design BTEC Diploma in Foundation Studies at Mid Cheshire College

Course description

This programme is for students who wish to pursue a professional career in art or design through the study of a degree or Foundation Degree.

Course content

The areas included are: - Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, Sculpture, Ceramics, 3D Design, Graphic Communication and Fashion/Textiles. There are annual trips to London and abroad supplementing Art History, providing access to major collections and exhibitions. Recent trips have included, Paris, Barcelona, Prague, Vienna, and New York.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs grade A* - C or equivalent (including GCSE English). You will also be need to present a satisfactory portfolio.


Learning is through tutorials, consultation, and practical studies/workshop lectures and a personal written reflective diary. Formal assessment during the first two terms will allow you to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses and assist you to make the appropriate applications to higher education. There is a final major project assessed by exhibition.

Future opportunities

Degree, Foundation Degree or HND in a range of specialist studies e.g. graphic design, 3D design, fashion/textile design, fine art. A number of students each year are guaranteed places at Manchester Metropolitan or Salford Universities to which the course is affiliated.
