Basic Construction (multi-skills) Level 1 at Waltham Forest College

Course description

This Basic Construction Diploma Level 1 course is suitable for 16-18 year olds who enjoy practical work and would like to become a professional in one of the following trades:

Painting & Decorating

Course content

Basic knowledge, technical and practical skills across a variety of trade subjects

Entry requirements

Normally 4 GCSEs at Grade G or above including English and Maths
All applicants will be required to successfully complete an interview and a short Maths and English assessment. A really keen interest in the subject and a clear commitment to the course is necessary for the student to succeed.

Future opportunities

Progression to a Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry, Bricklaying and Painting and Decorating. Alternatively, you could consider work-based learning and employment opportunities.
This course provides a good foundation for future career opportunities or progression to a more advanced work related qualification such as an Apprenticeship.

      Trains run to Walthamstow Central from Liverpool Street station (a bus can then be taken to the College, see below). Wood Street station is approximately a 10-minute walk from the College.


      The Victoria Line ends at Walthamstow Central, which is approximately a 15-minute walk to the College. Alternatively, you can get a bus, see below.


      From Walthamstow Central:Bus 275 stops outside the College, 212 stops across the road from the College (Shernhall Street). Buses 97, 357, 34 or 215 stop at the 'Bell Corner' (junction of Hoe Street and Forest Road). From here, the College is approximately five-minute walk.

      From Blackhorse Road Tube Station: Bus 123 also stops outside the College on route between Tottenham and Ilford
