ICT A Level at Tytherington School
The aim of the course is to develop an understanding of the features, role and development of information and communication technology in today’s digital world.
Information and Communication Technology dominates today’s digital world. The growth and development of computers and information systems has changed the way we live our lives. The growth of network communications technology has seen the development and convergence of mobile, cable, broadcast and satellite communications. Again, the impact on both domestic and commercial environments has been staggering. Every employee, every customer, every citizen has in some shape or form been affected by Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
AS level ICT
Unit 1 - Practical Problem Solving in a Digital World. Students are expected to make practical use of a range of software, hardware and communication technologies to demonstrate several types of problem solving techniques.
Unit 2 - Living in the Digital World. This module is designed to give students the wider picture of the use of ICT and to develop their understanding of basic terms and concepts involved in the study of the subject. In particular, students are encouraged to consider the impact of ICT on society and the world in general.
A2 level ICT
Unit 3 - The Use of ICT in a Digital World. This module looks at the fast-changing nature of ICT, including development in technology and ICT system capabilities, and how this will affect all aspects of life. The content is designed to focus on the management of ICT and the use of ICT within organisations.
Unit 4 - Practical Issues Involved in the Use of ICT in a Digital World. This module allows students to undertake a project involving the production of a substantial ICT system for a business. Students are encouraged to make contact with
Students wishing to undertake AS ICT should have gained either a C grade in AQA GCSE ICT / Computer Science or a Pass grade in the Cambridge National ICT.
AS level ICT
Unit 1 - Practical Problem Solving in a Digital World. Written Examination (50% of total AS marks)
Unit 2 - Living in the Digital World.
Written Examination (50% of total AS marks)
A2 level ICT
Unit 3 - The Use of ICT in a Digital World.
Written Examination (60% of total A2 marks)
Unit 4 - Practical Issues Involved in the Use of ICT in a Digital World.
Coursework Project (40% of total A2 marks)
Further study of ICT at university covers areas such as Networking, Programming and System Development. Possible employment opportunities include working as a technician, engineer and in network maintenance.
