BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in TV & Film (Media Production) at Trafford College
This course is designed for those interested in a career in television production, filmmaking, post-production editing and broadcast journalism. Media City in Salford Quays has led to increased demand for media production skills, and the Extended Level 3 Diploma is designed to prepare learners for the workplace or for higher levels of study in this area. We develop the practical and theoretical skills required to understand Media practices and succeed in future employment or higher education.Example projects undertaken are:· Creative filmmaking (Music video production, drama and documentary)· Television studio production· Digital editing skills and techniques· Film Theory· Corporate and promotional video production for real clients Students are encouraged to take up independent work-related opportunities alongside their course to develop their professional, employability and enterprise skills and there are also extra-curricular activities including visits to film festivals, industry professional masterclasses and workplaces.As part of the course you will have access to broadcast quality camera equipment, editing suites and specialist TV studio with chroma key screen.We broadcast productions on our own online TV channel and students have the opportunity to submit work for showcasing to the public and invited clients at the end of year ‘TRAFTA’ awards as part of the college’s final year show in June.
5 GCSEs at grades A* - C including Maths and English (or equivalent). A successful interview and evidence of creative skills are also required
Units are tailored to suit the diverse range of skills required, and opportunities available, in the media industry. All units are assessed through project based work or theory assignments and it is expected that students spend a significant amount of time on assessment projects as self-directed study outside College as well as within the timetabled lessons.
The course is the equivalent of 3 A levels (A* to E) and will prepare you for a higher level course, employment or university.
