Performing Arts BTEC at Matravers School

Course description

This course is an exciting opportunity for students to develop their skills in the performing arts industries through practical study and continuous assessment. Students will have the opportunity to study both dance and drama within the performing arts course and develop their knowledge of the many facets of performing arts practice. Some of the units you may study on the course include: • Working in the Performing Arts Industry • Professional Development in the Industry • Performing Arts Production • Development of Drama • Scripted Plays • Devising Plays • Contemporary Dance • Jazz Dance • Working as a Musical Ensemble • Stage Crewing

Course content

In addition to developing skills in the performing arts, students will learn how to work as part of a team – to lead and take the initiative in group work. The exploration of the performing arts will also develop a greater all-round confidence that will help students in all areas of life. Assessment for the BTEC First in Performing Arts is based on written and practical assignments set in each unit. Assignments will involve performance projects, group and individual project work, as well as written work and research. Assessments are graded at distinction, merit or pass level. On successful completion of the course, students will be awarded an overall distinction, merit or pass grade.
