BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Information Technology at Selby College
Fancy developing with Raspberry Pi2? How about a DJI Phantom 3 Drone? Do you enjoy building PCs? If so, then this is the course for you. What about using visual programming to put commands into a Lego Mindstorm EV3. Want to learn to create concept art and design computer games? This is a specialist work-related programme of study. It covers the key knowledge and practical skills you will need for job roles such as Games Designer, Website Developer, Programmer and IT Technician. The course is particularly suitable for anyone interested in a career in the IT or Business sectors. It is advantageous to have studied ICT at school, but not essential.
You will study nine units per year but should only study a maximum of five at any one time, from the following:
• Computer Systems (What’s Inside the Box)
• Controlling Systems with IT (Pi/Robots)
• Website Production
• Digital Graphics and Multimedia Design
• Human-Computer Interfaces
• Games Programming
• Event Driven Programming
• Computer Networks
• Technical Support
• IT Troubleshooting and Repair
• Databases and Information Systems
• CompTIA A+ / IT Fundamentals (optional)
Please note: If you have not achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English and/or Maths you will be required to continue studying these alongside your college course. As part of your programme you will be expected to complete work experience which will involve travelling.
Standard Level 3 entry requirements apply
On successful completion, you may go on to the HNC/D in Computing at Selby College, an Apprenticeship, university or employment.
