Performing Arts at King James I Academy

Course description

Unit 1: Developing Skills for Performance. You will undertake various workshops, evaluate your progress and performance and produce a portfolio for assessment.

Unit 2: Planning an Event. You will organise a show, with responsibility for set, costume, advertisement, administration and technical aspects.

Unit 3: Performing to a Commission. You will respond creatively to a commission sent by Edexcel. You will perform to a specific audience and will be marked by an external examiner. This unit often combines Dance, Drama and Music.

Unit 4: Portfolio of Skills. You will produce a portfolio to take to University/Audition. It is entirely focused on you as a performer and your skills. It is a formal document.

Unit 5: Performance of a script. You will perform an existing script to a specific audience and create a portfolio in conjunction with the performance which will help you with the character and contextual development.

Unit 6: Interpretation of a script. You will perform an existing script with scenes included that you have devised yourself.

Entry requirements

A GCSE Grade C or above in Drama or Expressive Arts
