Sociology at The Bramcote College

Course description

The course we follow will give you an insight into the various skills and knowledge that is required to work in this exciting field. You get to develop debating skills and learn how to analyse and evaluate various areas of society.

Unit 1 Youth Culture (AS).
You will look at what crimes are caused by young people as well as what crimes affect young people. You will look at how young people are labelled as ‘deviant’.

Unit 2 Research Methods and Mass Media (AS).
How the media presents criminal and deviant individuals. The role of the media in creating panics and outcries in society.

Unit 3 Understanding Crime (A2)
Why do people commit crimes, the different types of criminal behaviour. Crime and deviance relating to ethnicity, gender and age.


Unit 4 Social Inequality (A2)
How age, gender, ethnicity, social class affects the way in which we are perceived and treated.

Entry requirements

5 x A*- C grades at GCSE.
