Drama and Theatre Studies AS/A2 at Mangotsfield School

Course description

The course demands practical and written skills in almost
equal measure. You will extend your ability to create
drama and theatre, in performing and production roles
and will write about drama in a critical and reflective
manner. The course will involve taking part in drama
productions, as well as studying plays, playwrights and
practitioners. You need to be curious about issues and
ideas and have a creative instinct for communicating your
views through drama. You should be interested in acting,
writing and, to some extent, on the visual and technical
side of theatre. You should have a desire to develop and
refine your skills in these areas. At both AS and A2,
candidates are required to develop the ability to form
judgements about live theatre based on their
understanding of drama and theatre.

Entry requirements

You will have gained at least a B grade in Drama if you
have studied it at GCSE or achieved a Level 2 in the
Creative and Media Diploma. If you have not taken
Drama GCSE or the Diploma, you may still be able to
take AS/A2 but you will need to have an evaluation with
Miss Wooltorton in order to assess your knowledge and
experience. It is important that you are interested in
gaining a greater understanding of how theatre and
plays work, that you are keen to be involved with
performances and that you are a committed and focused
worker.
