Course description

If you would like to work in the media and are interested in current affairs and the world around you, this course is for you. Combining practical and theoretical study, it enables you to explore different forms of the media, and understand how they operate. In each year of the course, you'll have the option to produce a print, video or radio product, and you'll also learn about the history of the various media, the commercial and industrial structure of production and circulation, and the limitations placed on them by governments and society. You should have an enquiring mind, regularly read and watch news programmes, and be able to work independently and in groups

Course content

* First year modules include Foundation Portfolio, which will see you creating a new music magazine using a Mac computer; and either TV Drama or Radio Drama, plus Institutions and Audiences

* Second year modules include; an Advanced Portfolio practical project; and Critical Perspectives in the Media.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at Grades A*- C (or equivalent) including GCSE English.

Assessment

Each year is assessed by a combination of coursework and written exams.

Future opportunities

Employment, Higher Education or further study for a Professional Qualification.
