Level 3 Agriculture at Newton Rigg College
A two year programme of study designed to prepare you for a career in one of the UK’s most vital industries – agricultural food production.
Learn about working in the agriculture industry and develop the skills you will need in employment and for further learning. Learners will undertake some theory sessions that will allow better understanding on what is practised in practical sessions, farm duties and work experience. Visits will be made to our partner college farms in Yorkshire to study different farming systems.
• Undertake and review work-related experience in the land-based industries • Farm animal production • Land-based machinery operations • Animal and plant husbandry • Land-based workshop practice • Participate in providing estate maintenance • Land-based business • Work experience and industry trade show visits • English and maths
Our Level 2 and Level 3 Agriculture study programmes allow the opportunity to take additional specialist qualifications such as Tractor Driving, Fork Lift Truck Driving and Safe Use of Veterinary Medicines, but charges may apply.
Usually at least 4 GCSEs at grade C or above to include any 2 from English, Maths and Science with at least a grade D in the remaining subject. Alternatively a suitable level 2 vocational qualification (Merit or above) with English and Maths at Level 2

Higher Education Qualifications such
as Foundation Degrees in Agriculture and Land
Management or Countryside Management and, if
you’re successful, then on to a ‘top up’ BSc Hons
in many sectors such as agriculture,
countryside management and all allied industries.
Students typically go on to work as farmers, farm
managers, herdsman, stockman, contractors, tractor
drivers, agronomist and general farm workers.
