Public Services - BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Public Uniformed Services at Calderdale College

Course description

This is a one year course designed to prepare you for a career within a Uniformed Public Service organisation, you will also gain a valuable insight into the role Outdoor Education plays in public service employment. The qualification is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A-C.

Course content

This is a one year course designed to prepare you for a career in the public services. It will benefit those interested in a career in Emergency Services, Armed Forces and those interested in serving the public. The qualification is equivalent to 4 GCSEs. Units include:

  • Public Service Skills
  •  Fitness
  • Employment
  • Citizenship
  • Diversity Units for Outdoor Activities
  • Health and Safety

You may also achieve additional qualifications including First Aid. (You will also get the opportunity to complete your Emergency First Aid qualification.) You will also have an opportunity to develop essential Functional Skills (This would depend on your qualifications upon entry to the course).

Entry requirements

This is an intermediate course suitable for those who have at least 4 GCSEs at grade D or grade 3 which should include Maths or English, or a relevant/equivalent Level 1 qualification or relevant work experience. Candidates will also need a satisfactory reference from their school or current tutor.

A variety of assessment methods will be used including written assignments, oral presentations, practical activities and demonstrations, posters, leaflets and an externally set Integrated Vocational Assignment.

Financial information

In most cases students aged 18 and under who wish to enrol on a full time further education course will have their fees waived.  Students who are aged 19 and over and who wish to enrol on a full time course should contact our Student Services Team on 01422-399367 for more information.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of the programme (Merit or
higher) you may progress to a Level 3 Public Service course
or seek employment in the Public Services industry.
