Sociology at Felixstowe Academy

Course description

Candidates who study sociology will acquire knowledge of contemporary social processes and social changes. Candidates will be encouraged to develop their own sociological awareness through active engagement with the contemporary world.

A2 Unit 4

  • Stratification and differentiation
  • Theory and methods


A variety of styles and techniques are used from the traditional lecture based lessons to active learning, as well as use of ICT. Progress of students is checked through regular testing and essay writing. Testing takes both written and oral forms. Students will also have the opportuntiy to develop their presentation skills.

Examinations take place each January and June at both levels. The examinations cover the topics covered up to that point.

Future opportunities

This subject lends itself to a variety of university courses and careers due to the wide range of skills the students acheive. Students might consider careers in business management, enviroment management, health and social care related fields or education.
