Art and Design BTEC Extended Diploma Level 3 at Gloucestershire College

Course description

This course covers a broad range of topics relevant to the art and design industry.

All students receive key skills guidance and training, participate in the personal tutorial programme and have the opportunity to take part in activities, which aid personal development.

You will take part in live assignment briefs and have the chance to be part of the Overdrive project.

The College has close links with artists and within the industry. You will enjoy large, light working spaces, a dedicated fashion room, print room, darkroom, life drawing studio, photography studio and digital art suites (both Mac and PC).

Course content

This is a level 3, two year course in art and design that covers a wide range of topics including five core units such as

  • visual recording
  • historical and contextual studies
  • materials, techniques and processes
  • ideas and concepts and
  • visual communication.

Areas covered may include illustration, 3D design, painting, printmaking, fashion/textiles, photography and sculpture depending upon campus and learners.

Entry requirements

You will need to have 4-5 GCSE's at A* to C Grade including English and Maths and Art and Design.

Future opportunities

You can progress on to the foundation diploma or a higher education course in an art specialism, such as fine art, photography, graphics or spatial design.
