Art and Design Level 2 Diploma at Carlisle College

Course description

The Level 2 first Diploma in Art & Design is a practical introduction for those intending to work in the Art and Design industries. The course serves as a practical introduction to various key areas of art and design as well as giving you the chance for a more sustained exploration of areas in 2D, 3D, Illustration, Surface Pattern and Textiles.

Course content

You will study 8 units which give you practical experience of Art & Design techniques which culminate in the production of a progress portfolio of work that will support your application to Level 3 or into the world of work. The first 7 units of the course are graded Pass or Refer only.

At the end of the year, you will tackle a graded project which will set the overall grade for your whole year. This final unit can be taken at level 2 or at level 3 and we would expect anyone wishing to progress to level 3 takes the level 3 final unit. To progress to level 3, you must achieve an overall Merit grade for the course.

We endeavour to have live projects which enrich the course and we have good partnerships with galleries and exhibitors so that you can get your work into the public arena.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSE's at grade D or above to include English and Maths.

Work is assessed throughout the course via a range of vocationally relevant projects.

Future opportunities

On successful completion you will be able to apply to progress to a Level 3 course in either Art & Design or Creative Media Production or alternatively to enter employment. To progress to level 3 you must have a merit for your studies on your UAL level 2 and a A 'C' in English or equivalent is required for progression.

Further information

You will take the course over 4 days a week but you will be expected to keep up with homework and explore concepts in your own time.
