Entry to the Uniformed Services NCFE Advanced Diploma Level 3 at Fareham College

Course description

This course will provide you with a realistic awareness of working in uniformed public services. You will also develop your physical fitness as many careers in this sector are physically demanding as well as mentally challenging. Practical and physical activities are therefore an integral part of this course and you must be prepared to always undertake these challenges.

You will also take a qualification in Stewarding, which could lead to employment with local event management companies.

There will be opportunities to attend a whole range of team building activities, and off-campus visits to related organisations such as the Police, Fire Service, Army, Royal Navy and the Royal Marines, as well as other uniformed services.

Course content

The course will cover:

  • Preparation for employment to a chosen Uniformed Service

  • Development and compulsory participation in all aspects of physical fitness

  • Refinement of leadership skills

  • Legal Implications of physical actions

  • Advanced map reading and navigation across open country

  • Participation in coaching sessions within competitive sports

  • Participation in planning and leading adventurous activities

It will be delivered through a majority of practical work in and out of the classroom as well as outdoor activities. As the course is vocationally based, it is supported by visiting speakers from a variety of the Uniformed Services as well as visits to various establishments and outdoor facilities.

Entry requirements

Five GCSE’s at C or above including English and Maths or Level 2 Diploma course at Merit standard.

Financial information

You will be required to purchase a uniform to wear in class and for practical activities and pay a contribution towards external visits.

Further information

You can apply to progress directly into one of the uniformed services on completion of this course.

Alternatively, you may be able to progress to the BTEC Level 3 Advanced Diploma, provided you have the necessary GCSEs in English and Maths.
