Course description

What will I be studying?

In Philosophy you will look at Greek and Judeo - Christian influences on western thoughts. This includes the classic arguments for God's existence, as well as the challenges to religion from science, evil and psychology. In Ethics you will look at ethical issues such as fertility treatment and environmental ethics. These are studied in relation to ethical systems and human influences such as conscience and free will.

What does this subject involve?

Discussion, debate, essay writing, philosophical analysis and evaluation.


What skills or qualities will I need?

An open mind

Be prepared to be challenged, an interest in why the world is as it is

An ability to think for yourself.



Entry requirements

You do not need to have studies this for GCSE.

Future opportunities

Religious Studies is a well respected academic A level.

Past students have used the knowledge and skills they have gained during the course to help them stand out as candidates for law or medicine, but really the course will give you skills that will help with any university course. Medical ethics and business ethics are now seen to be increasingly relevant in the world of work.
